The End

I did it. I typed those two words.

Yesterday I wrote three pages in the final chapter and today I wrote the last three pages of the final chapter and the one-page epilogue. Done. The End.

Goal accomplished: First draft completed by the end of June.

Of course, it’s still early in June. But I have another goal that I forgot to mention in my post from a few days ago: Finish the Sir Newton’s Color Me Florida book, the third in the line, also by the end of June.

Up to now, I’ve been concentrating on the novel, feeling as though I’m racing toward a finishing line in a marathon. I really wanted to get to that finishing line.

So, although I have been doing some drawings here and there and some research for the Florida book in between other things, I’ve been focusing on my novel. Now that I have reached the end of the novel, my early mornings before work will be taken up with the Florida book.

This will help with two things: the Florida book will get done and I will have some time off for the novel. After working on it constantly for so long, I don’t really want to stop now. I want to immediately go back and start revising. But having a bit of breathing space is good. It allows us to come back to our writing with a fresh mind and, in the immortal words of Ratatouille‘s Aton Ego (my husband and I watched this again a couple nights ago — so cute and sweet) “some perspective”.

So, new goal for the novel: Full revision done by the end of November. That should start at the beginning of July, after I have finished the Florida book.

And, I will take up my husband’s suggestion of dinner out to celebrate. Afterall, I did just finish my first novel.

What are your goals? How many pages did you write today?

Write On!
